Group Safety Specialist – Assurance

The HMC Group has extensive aviation, tourism and accommodation operations in some of the most iconic regions of Australia and is seeking to appoint a Safety Specialist –Assurance

About the role       

Reporting to the Group Aviation Safety Manager the Safety Specialist – Assurance will be primarily responsible for but not limited to:

  • Safety Management System (SMS) – assist in the implementation, operation and management of the SMS including but not limited to safety promotion, assurance and risk management.
  • Compliance – monitor progress of open action items and actively work to close-out previously identified audit findings.
  • Incident Investigation and management – ability to conduct comprehensive investigations into safety incidents and effectively triage response management of incidents.
  • Ongoing analysis and review – champion the company’s desire for continuous improvement, including identifying effectiveness of the SMS and more generally provide guidance and support to the wider team on the mitigation of operational risk.


To be successful in this role 

  • A minimum of 3+ years in similar role
  • Previous aviation industry experience is advantageous but not essential
  • Formal lead auditor training (ISO09001)
  • Formal safety investigation training
  • SMS training
  • Experience in quality management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to foster an environment of open communication and collaboration at both a team level and across the wider Group
  • Analytical with strong research and organisational skills
  • Ability to travel domestically (largely within WA) as required
  • Efficient in the MS Office suite, with a particular focus on advanced Excel and database skills
