The University of New South Wales (UNSW) is one of the largest and most respected universities in Australia. Best known for its technology base, the University has a broad cross section of capacities in Engineering, Applied and Pure Science, Management and Professional development fields.
The School of Aviation is part of the Faculty of Science at UNSW. It consists of a core of permanent staff members, together with a large number of affiliated academics and aviation staff actively involved with the degree program. The UNSW also own six single engine DA-40, one twin engine DA-42 aircraft and have permanent lease of two others, including a Duchess. We conduct flight training from our Flying Operations Unit at Bankstown Airport.
The UNSW offer a selection of programs and services to serve the aviation industry. Degree programs range from the Bachelor of Aviation to our Masters and Doctorate programs and are available in a range of different delivery modes. Whether you want to be a pilot, air traffic controller, airport or airline manager (or perhaps you already are!) – they are sure that the School of Aviation has a program that suits you. If you are looking for a research or consulting partner, then they are sure that they are also able to provide a quality product that is world class.
Students from the Bachelor of Aviation Program tend to come directly from high school and attend the University on a full time basis, although it is also possible to study part time. A number of students study for the degree whilst working within the industry. Current students are employed by Qantas, Virgin Blue, Jetstar, Regional Express (Rex) and Airservices Australia . A number of second year students also spend up to three months completing work-experience with major airlines during their vacations
Recent graduates from the Bachelor of Aviation have found jobs all over Australia and Asia. Pilots from their Flying program have found instructing and charter work, especially in the Northern Territory and Western Australia with some having been accepted into Qantas, British Airways, Rex and Singapore Airlines cadetship schemes. Management stream graduates have found jobs within the likes of Qantas, British Airways, Airport Coordination Australia, Asiana Airlines, Virgin Blue, Jetstar, Airservices Australia and IATA.
The majority of students within the GradCert, GradDip and MScTech (Aviation) programs are already working within the aviation industry. Current students include employees of Qantas, Airservices Australia, Rex, RAAF, Army, Sydney Airport Corporation and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority within Australia. International students include employees of Singapore Airlines, Silk Air, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, The Singapore Air Force, The Civil Aviation Authority of Macau and Viva Air.
