Skytrans is regional Queensland’s leading General Charter operator. The company’s commitment to providing the highest level of safety and its sharp focus on efficient service has proven to be a winning formula amongst its growing client base. From private business charters, to remote mail runs, to regional passenger transport, Skytrans has Outback Queensland & the Torres Strait covered.
Skytrans is privately owned by Peter Collings, whose career in the aviation industry spans more than 20 years. Peter has owned airline operations servicing the Queensland Outback since 1992 and understands the unique challenges of the western environment. Skytrans originated from Peter’s former company, which he grew to become Queensland’s biggest regional airline. In 2000, Peter left the company and formed Skytrans to cater for smaller commute services.
Skytrans upgraded its AOC to incorporate RPT in early 2000, after winning tenders from the Department of Transport and Australia Post. In 2003 the company acquired Air Mt Isa and then in 2004, Peter took on Helicopter & Aircraft Maintenance, which was renamed Qwest Aviation. That same year Skytrans regained the Qld RASS RPT Routes, successfully won the tender for the South Australian RASS service, and expanded into Townsville for BHP Cannington crew changes, Queensland Health clinic runs, RFDS clinic runs, and general charter work.
In 2006 Skytrans introduced its first turbine aircraft with the Beech 200 Super Kingair.
At the end of 2008 Skytrans made another major investment, launching two new Beechcraft 1900D aircraft. Early 2009 the company announced an expansion into the Torres Strait, to provide services to residents of 12 remote communities. Later in the year Skytrans took over an emergency contract for the operation of the regional North Queensland routes, allowing it to cater for the rural and remote residents of Hughenden, Richmond, Julia Creek, Winton and Longreach, with connections to the larger centres of Townsville and Mount Isa. Then in May 2009, the company welcomed on board Owen Taylor as its General Manager to help steer Skytrans into the future as regional Queensland’s leading General Charter operator.
