Yes hopefully you are all aware we have decided to run a series of roadshows instead of our traditional end of year conference this year. Our launch event will be Mildura 25th and 26th of March 2021. As this is one of the first real face-to-face events on the aviation calendar, we hope to attract a good number to this wonderful regional centre.

Traditional RAAA convention sponsors including ADMA Foundation have come on board as our Diamond Sponsor, CASA, Air-Services Australia, Viva Energy, QBE, WFS, Aviation TraderĀ  and others have indicated they would also be willing to continue sponsoring the RAAA in such a series of regional Roadshows. We would welcome other sponsors to ensure we can make these events special!

Alliance Airlines are putting on a special flight from Brisbane – Sydney- Mildura for those who wish to thumb a ride, an administration fee of $100 pp will be added to your registration fee if you choose to get a lift! REX Airlines have also provided special fares for customers coming from Melbourne and Adelaide, providing attendees the chance to use Community Fares which are the cheapest you can get. We are very lucky having great members such as Alliance and REX!!

We already have a number of speakers lined up to come to Mildura to help inform and to learn new ideas from. Importantly I have got commitment from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications to speak to us on government handling of Covid aviation measures and to update on the Future of Aviation discussion paper. We will also get an update from CASA’s Rob Walker on latest hot topics such as new fatigue rules and the pending arrival of the flight operational suite of regulations, one not to miss!! We also have a great presentation (I have seen the video) from Airservices on how the future of airspace management will change with the introduction of more drones into our national airspace. Our former Board member Maddy Johnson will also speak about flying training organisations and how they have (just) survived the pandemic and what the future holds, especially for independent schools. These plus an insight to how industry sees the future of aviation by Matt Findley from Ailevon Aviation consulting and an interesting discussion by Greg Fordham on better regional airport ownership structures going forward. Julian Fraser will also update us on industry insurance issues, always something our small business owners need to be across.

An evening meal is proposed for Thursday night on a Paddleboat on the Murray river thanks to Mildura Airport, we are sure this will attract a number of guests so please make sure you register early. We will also get to hear from some of our Board members on how their organisations have coped through the pandemic. CASA Chairman and former RAAA Chair Tony Mathews (a Mildura local) has also agreed to talk on the night and reflect on CASA’s role throughout the pandemic.

All payments will be refundable of course if any travel restrictions affect your ability to attend! But we all need to do our bit, we need the numbers to make these events a success so if you are in the area (basically anywhere in Australia!) make sure you get to Mildura on those days. From the feedback we have had I am sure our registrations will fill up fast! We will open to registrations very soon but initially we need to reach out to potential sponsors, so get in fast, you will see that some have already been sold out.

  • Attendance is $50 for Thursday (incl lunch), $60 for the evening paddleboat meal and $50 for Friday (incl lunch). Or take advantage of the $125 all-inclusive package.
