Airnorth, the Northern Territory’s home-grown airline, today announced it will receive Federal Government grant support to continue operating essential air services to some of Northern Australia’s most remote communities and regional hubs, including Western Australia and Queensland.

The Commonwealth Government grant will underwrite 24 weekly services to select destinations for an initial 6-week period commencing May 01, 2020.

The approved flights will operate across most of Airnorth extensive network and includes destinations such as Alice Springs, Broome, Cairns, Darwin, Gove, Groote Eylandt, Maningrida, Milingimbi, Kununurra, Perth and Townsville.

“We are incredibly grateful for the Commonwealth Government’s support as for many remote communities air services are fundamentally the only all-year round reliable method of transportation for people, vital goods, essential services, and freight up here in Northern Australia” said Airnorth CEO Daniel Bowden. “This maintains connectivity and will support those communities, residents, and businesses as Australia continues to fight and rebuild from the devastating impact of this global pandemic.”

Airnorth will operate a minimum of 24 weekly return flights, to Queensland, Western Australia and throughout the Northern Territory that will support essential workers, freight and supplies. The schedule will be supported by Airnorth’s Embraer E170 jet and E120 turboprop aircraft types.
