We can only cross our fingers and hope that yet another review into regulations affecting the aviation industry may actually achieve good outcomes, especially for regional air travel. All of us want a safe and secure aviation industry but in protecting national security, it should not come down to regional aviation paying a higher price for it.
The Department of Home Affairs introduced new screening measures without analysing the cost effect on our industry, they have been backtracking ever since but we are still left with a heavy cost burden of these new measures.
The RAAA is calling on the Federal Government to either directly fund aviation security measures or introduce a national ticket levy for applicable sized aircraft so that regional air travelers don’t end up paying up to 20 times more for screening than their city cousins.
